BRAZILIAN JIU-JITSU (BJJ) is a grappling-based martial art whose central theme is the skill of controlling a resisting opponent in ways that force him to submit. Due to the fact that control is generally easier on the ground than in a standing position, much of the technique of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu (BJJ) is centered around the skill of taking an opponent down to the ground and wrestling for dominant control positions from where the opponent can be rendered harmless. To control and overcome greater size, strength, and aggression with lesser size and strength is the keynote of the sport. This is done by utilizing superior leverage, grip, and position upon your opponent. Students of the sport gain a deep understanding of the workings and limits of the human body. This knowledge can be used to subdue and control an opponent with whatever level of severity the student chooses. The path to this knowledge is physically and mentally demanding. Students benefit from greatly increased physical fitness, problem-solving ability, self-knowledge of their body and mind and the many social benefits of working within a large group of like-minded fellow students as you learn and have fun together.
Professor Holly and Ronnie Flores has been a mainstay in the Houston, Texas Jiu-Jitsu Community since 2007. After receiving their purple belts in 2013, they were immediately put on the path to becoming instructors. Their first initiative was to create a kid’s program to help introduce Jiu-Jitsu to children as young as 4 years of age. Professor Holly and Ronnie knew right away that they wanted to focus on kids which ignited their dream of opening up a gym that embodied a
Fun, Friendly, Family atmosphere.
While developing and fine tuning their own Jiu-Jitsu, Professor Holly and Professor Ronnie were both active in the competition scene. Competition was extremely important to help their students be the best version of themselves and be fully prepared in a competition setting.
When Professor Holly Flores was promoted to Black Belt, she not only became the first ever female Renzo Gracie Black Belt in Texas, she also became the first ever Hispanic female Renzo Gracie Black belt, and the first ever female Renzo Gracie Black belt to own/operate an academy.
With over 30 years of experience, Professor Holly and Ronnie have developed an amazing balance of Fun, Friendly, Family orientated academy to help their students achieve all their goals. Under their tutelage and mentorship, students are able to achieve Jiu-Jitsu goals and accomplish personal goals on and off the mats. They place the biggest emphasis on Family. Come visit Renzo Gracie Katy and you will see the entire Flores family training together.
Our mission is to create Great Students through the art of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu which focuses on using an attacker’s strength and weight against them, allowing a smaller weaker person to defend themselves through leverage and technique. Jiu-Jitsu also teaches important lessons about respect and self-confidence, which can help to prevent bullying in the first place. With practice, a person can learn to defend themselves in a non-violent way, and use their knowledge of Jiu-Jitsu to de-escalate a situation before it turns physical.
We strive to make our academy a Fun, Friendly, and Family atmosphere that offers a safe and positive environment for everyone to learn and grow in. We believe that everyone can benefit from the knowledge and discipline of Jiu-Jitsu and we strive to provide top notch instruction to help our students attain their goals.
